Why Native AMM Bees

Why AMM Bees

The AMM bee, or Apis mellifera mellifera, is a subspecies of the Western honeybee native to Europe. Known for its hardiness and adaptability, the AMM bee is particularly well-suited for cooler climates. This bee is characterised by its dark coloration, gentleness, and strong foraging abilities.

AMM bees are excellent pollinators and play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity in their ecosystems. They are less prone to swarming compared to other honeybee subspecies, making them easier to manage for beekeepers. However, they can be more sensitive to disease. Conservation efforts are in place to support AMM bee populations, as they face threats from habitat loss, climate change, and competition from non-native bee species.
